Hello designers! I am the owner and creator of Ranching Tradition Fiber. I am a fifth generation Montana Rancher who raises sheep, Spins, processes, dyes, crochets and knits. I have a 3 different yarn lines that are all 100% wool. 1st is our Tobacco Root Valley in DK and Fingering, then we have our Range Camp in DK, Fingering, and Bulky, then lastly our Smith River in DK weight.
Our yarn is available in multiple yarn shops and on our website.
About the Yarns:
Tobacco Root Valley yarn is 100% wool, 11 WPI DK, 250 yards, 4 oz. (approx.), 14 WPI Fingering, 300 yards, 3 oz (approx.) available in 15 different colors.
Range Camp 100% wool, 11 WPI DK, 272 yards, 3.5oz (approx.), 14 WPI Fingering, 268 yards, 2 oz. (approx.). available in 3 different colorways and 1 set. Bulky weight coming soon.
Smith River 100% Natural brown, 11 WPI DK, 266 yards, 3.5oz (approx.)
Types of Patterns: I am look for patterns to show off our beautiful homegrown wool yarn. I am looking for designs, using our Range Camp DK in our Sunset and 3 other colorways, Yarbrough, Grace, and Cedric. Also, our Smith River DK.

Fingering - set will include 5 skeins, each skein being (approx.) 2 oz. 268 yards, totaling 1340 yards.
DK - set will include 5 skeins, each skein being (approx.) 3.5oz skein was 272 yards, totaling 1360 yards.

Smith River
Compensation/Support/Rights: Ranching Tradition Fiber will provide the agreed upon yarn to the designer. The designer will be responsible to all aspects of self-publishing their pattern, within the agreed upon time frame. The designer will retain full rights to their pattern. Ranching Tradition Fiber will request use of the designer’s images for promotional purposes. Designer will agree to list Ranching Tradition Fiber as the yarn used for the design. This includes links on your website pattern pages and other social media. Designer is free to publish and sell their pattern as they like. Ranching Tradition Fiber will include designer’s information on all social media post that include images of design.
Timeline: While I am always happy to connect with designers who are interested in working with our yarns, the submission deadline for this particular project is November 1, 2024. Designer will be chosen by November 10, 2024, and patterns should be published by end of January 2025. Exact timeline to be negotiated with individual designers.
Submission Requirements: Please submit your proposal by email to ranchingtraditionfiber@gmail.com. Please put Design Submission in subject line. The proposal should include - a sketch, swatch, description of the project, yarn requirements, a few words about yourself and yourself. Please also include links to your Website, Instagram, Facebook and other social networks.
We are happy to work with both knit and crochet designers. We prefer to work with a designer within the United States.
